Julia Ayriel Lim is a determined 14-year-old showjumper with a dream to represent Malaysia at the Asian Games, SEA Games and, one day, the Olympics. Her journey began just before the COVID-19 pandemic, but like many young athletes, the pandemic put her dreams on hold. Julia didn’t let this setback stop her. After lockdown, she worked tirelessly to get back into the saddle, showing incredible resilience and passion for her sport.
In September 2024, Julia began training at a local riding farm, riding Hyde Park, an ex-racehorse with a heart of gold. Hyde Park suffered an injury that kept him out for 8 months, but Julia’s determination never wavered. She continued riding and competing, adapting to Hyde Park’s limited capability and showing her commitment to the sport. In 2025 alone, Julia placed first in four categories, second in six, and third in eight, demonstrating her rapid progress and dedication.
However, equestrian sports come with significant financial challenges. Hyde Park requires proper care, including livery fees, new shoes, hay, feed, and plenty of carrots. Training fees, competition costs, and upkeep expenses add up quickly, and to compete in higher classes, Julia needs a horse capable of jumping above 1 meter, which is a major investment. Despite her parents’ support, these costs are beyond what her family can afford.
With your help, Julia can continue her training, participate in more competitions, and work towards her dream of representing Malaysia on the international stage. Every contribution, big or small, brings her closer to making her country proud.
